Academics
As we close the curtains on the 2023 - 2024 academic year, it's time to reflect on our journey of Growing into Greatness. This year, our collective efforts have not only propelled us forward but have firmly established our school as a place of excellence within Richmond Public Schools.
Achievements Unlocked:
Our theme of growth was not just a motto but a prophecy fulfilled. Together, we have achieved remarkable gains across the board:
-
Science: An impressive 11% increase in the number of students passing the end-of-year SOL test.
-
Math: Equally stunning, an 11% rise in our math success rate.
-
Reading: A solid 5% growth, showcasing our dedication to literary excellence.
These achievements have catapulted us to rank #3 in reading, #4 in science, and #6 in math across all RPS elementary schools. Furthermore, our early literacy initiatives have dramatically reduced the number of students identified as at-risk by 8%, while simultaneously enhancing every student's reading fluency.
Advancing to Excellence:
The increasing number of pass advanced scores further demonstrates our commitment to excellence:
-
2022: 9 pass advanced scores
-
2023: 28 pass advanced scores
-
2024: 39 pass advanced scores
This trend is a testament to our relentless pursuit of greatness and realizing the potential within each student.
House System & IB Program:
We recognize the need for continuous improvement and are committed to enhancing our House System. Furthermore, under the guidance of Stephanie Wozniak, our IB Coordinator, and the addition of a new Spanish teacher, we anticipate our IB status will reach new heights in the 2024 - 2025 school year.
Celebrating Our Champions:
It's with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to our retirees, Ms. Stephanie Baltrip and Ms. Cauble Thomas. Their dedication and service have left an unforgettable mark on our school, and we wish them a joyful and fulfilling retirement.
Congratulations are also in order for Ms. Valentine, who will be embracing a new challenge as Assistant Principal at Mary Munford, and Katherine Danyluk, who will continue making a difference as a Math Interventionist at Swansboro Elementary.
Looking Forward:
While we are excited about our accomplishments, our gaze is firmly set on the horizon. The 2024 - 2025 school year promises more growth, challenges, and triumphs. As we part ways for the summer, take this time to rest, recharge, and revel in the knowledge that together, we are growing into greatness.
Enjoy your summer, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to our school.
Warmest regards,
Principal Watkins
